Solving the issue of East Asian character set on certain Archos players: illustrated by the case of Archos Gmini XS100

 

Introduction

爱可视(Archos)针对欧洲市场发布的若干产品, 例如Gmini XS100, Archos 104这一类的随身听, 固件中并没有包含东亚语言, 故将含有这类字符的ID3信息一概显示为乱码. 虽然Archos的用户手册里提到了"Foreign Character Set", 但无论是硬盘里还是从archive中看到的Archos官网, 都没有手册中提到的.4fz字库文件. 本文旨在解决这一问题.

Certain Archos DAPs that were originally released for EU market did not include native support for East Asian languages in the factory firmware. Thus rendering all these characters as garbage. While Archos did mention the existence of several .4fz files for foreigh language character set, the exact files are nowhere to be found on device itself or on the archived website. In this article the author aims to solve such problem. For illustration purpose, an Archos Gmini XS100 has been used.

解决问题

进入爱可视的FTP站点, ftp://support.archos.com/Archives/, 找到对应的型号.

然后选择需要的字体, 下载后复制到设备中的Data文件夹, 重新启动机器即可.

最后, 用MP3Tag软件将文件的标签编码全部以UTF-16的形式保存.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Conclusion

 

虽然可以通过这种方式显示东亚语言, 但是网上鲜有教程, 可见没多少人发现. 此外, 一次只能调用一个字库的设计对于杂食性的听众来说也有不便. 大概Archos意识到了这点, 在2005年出品的高端型号里将东亚语言集成到了固件里.
